DSC Testing for Advanced Polymer Characterization

Differential Scanning Calorimetry allows us to determine key thermal properties of polymer materials such as glass transition temperature, crystallization temperature, and melting temperature. DSC analysis can also be employed for more specialized applications including oxidative induction time (OIT) measurements and kinetics studies of curing polymers. This analytical technique has found use in addressing a variety of customer needs such as contamination analysis, material verification, R&D, reverse engineering, and failure analysis. Our DSC analysis of polymers generally follows the analytical standard practices outlined in ASTM 3418.

DSC reference data for generic industry grade high density polyethylene (HDPE). The measured melting temperature of 127.34 °C is consistent with generic industry grade HDPE. Generic industry grade low density polyethylene (LDPE) typically has a melting point low than that of HDPE (~110 °C).
